SANTA
LUCE. The town takes its
name from a nearby pieve (parish), the Pieve di Santa
Luce. This hamlet is a typical country village with
a Roman-style church on its highest point. The village
and the parish, which were once separated, eventually
became unified by the construction of homes and buildings
along the road that joines them called Belvedere.
The fortified village has remained unchanged with the
castle and the fortress at its center. A feudal castle
of the Cadolingi family from Fucecchio, the village
remained, like the other towns of the region, under
the authority of the Pisa archbishopric.
Near the town there is a natural reserve with an artificial
lake in an unpolluted environment. This place, very
near to Rosignano, is a LIPU (league for the protection
of birds) oasis since 1992.
POMAIA. Tiny village in the midst of
the Pisa hills in one of the most beautiful Tuscan countrysides.
This hamlet has the characteristics of a medieval fortified
town. Pomaia has lately become famous for its Center
for Tibetan Buddhism, of the same school of Dalai Lama
who visited this center several times.
In this place of brotherhood and peace the monks built
a small Tibetan temple, its chorten (cenotaphs), its
flags for prayer and its sacred paintings. A visit to
the Pomaia Buddhist center is an opportunity
for interreligious meetings.
The center of Rosignano Marittimo and the beaches
of Vada and Castiglioncello are within close
reach. Our Farm Holidays can meet the demands of the
hardest customers to please that want excellent service
and proximity to the best known tourist sites (Florence
101 km, Pisa 48 km, Lucca
65 km, Volterra 43 km, Siena
97 km). Other small and picturesque medieval towns are
near and easy to reach: Casale Marittimo, Montescudaio,
Guardistallo, Castagneto Carducci and
Bolgheri.
BOLGHERI. located at the end of the
famous Cypress Road starting from San
Guido. The town is surrounded by woods, Mediterranean
vegetation and a beautiful farm plain. Bolgheri falls
under the town’s jurisdiction of Castagneto Carducci
to which it is connected by the “Via Bolgherese”,
a magnificent road known as Strada del vino (Wine road)
because of the world famous fine local wines.
The ancient medieval village can be reached by passing
under the monumental arch of the castle. Along the alleys
and small squares one can find many “botteghe”,
little shops that offer typical local products and plain
local specialities.
PISA. Located in a vast warpplain
(4 meters above sea level) just a few km from the
Tyrrhenian coast, Pisa (about 92,000 people) lies on
both sides of the Arno river. It is one of Italy’s
major cultural centers, and has a rich artistic
heritage, original medieval interpretation and blend
of Islamic, Lombard and local influences.
A visit to the magnificent Piazza dei Miracoli (Square
of miracles), with its monumental cemetery, cathedral,
and the universally famous leaning tower (classified
as one of the seven wonders of the world) is an absolute
must.
